The PAX Forum has been running for several years and the members are all parents or carers, who live in Poole, Dorset and have a child with special needs or a disability.

At PAX we really believe that parents and carers are experts when it comes to the needs of their children and families - especially when children have special needs or disabilities - we know our children best !

This website will help you to

  • find out about the work that our members are doing to ensure that parents` and carers` views form part of decision-making around  services for our families in Poole - (Committee Meeting minutes on the Downloads page)
  • send us your views on local services and find out about local and national consultations that are taking place now (What`s Your View? page and Current Consultations page)
  • join us as a COMMITTEE MEMBER or an ASSOCIATE MEMBER so that you can be involved - YOU can really make a difference (About Us page and Contact Us page)

HOW HAS PAX HELPED PARENTS AND CARERS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

  • Short Breaks activities for children with special needs and disabilities in the school holidays – due to PAX involvement there are now more activities that children want to attend, and better support for a wider range of needs – PAX continues this work
  •  We have ensured that the views of parents and carers influenced the development of the Xchange website – new in Poole soon
  • PAX gathered detailed feedback from local parents and carers for the government`s Green Paper consultation on Special Educational Needs (SEN) – this will influence the future way that children with special needs and disabilities are supported
  • We have been involved in developing the Poole SEN Policy, Poole Children`s Plan, revised Anti-Bullying Strategy, and plans supporting 18 year olds moving to adult services
  •  PAX worked with health on improving the system of nappy supplies for children with disabilities
  • A system to routinely involve parents and carers of all children in Poole (not just those with special needs or disabilities) will soon be helping to improve all Children`s Services in Poole – PAX lobbied for this and will stay involved as it develops
  • and more.......

FUNDING:

  • The Borough of Poole provides funding to the PAX Forum for an independent coordinator to support parents and carers to carry out the work of the forum.
  • Any complaints about the PAX Forum should be sent to: Head of CYPIS, Borough of Poole, Dolphin Centre, Poole BH151SA
  • We also apply annually for a grant from central government to help us hold events and produce a newsletter
